FYI – Recent Emails To CNYO For Your Consideration

Greetings fellow astrophiles,

The CNYO contact email receives a number of messages each day about space events, outreach opportunities, and freely-available or commercial items of interest. In light of many of us enjoying our extended stays at home with either freezing/cloudy conditions outside, I thought it worth sharing a few items that came in recently for your reviewing pleasure.

Edward Givens – “Constellations”

My name is Edward Givens. I’m a composer from Portland, Oregon. I just completed a new album entitled “Constellations”, which I am releasing for free.

Each piece is named after a constellation, and each composition is based on an asterism for its central motif or melodic riff. For example you could express the Big Dipper as the musical notes BBAGEDG. Of course you could express it in other ways too! – this is art not science. However, it does make for a wonderful way to initiate the creative process, and produce music that echoes an appreciation of the celestial realm.

Above, below, around
The circling systems formed
A wilderness of harmony

– Percy Bysshe Shelley

I am making the album free for the foreseeable future. To listen, or to download a copy, please go here – https://edwardgivens.bandcamp.com/album/constellations

To listen online – just click the play button. To download it, click where it says: “Buy Digital Album name your price – and simply enter 0 for the price!”

Or if you prefer, you may go to my Soundcloud page instead (and see soundcloud embed above).

Anyone is welcome to include the music in their presentations, videos or slideshows etc. especially educators. However please contact me first.

Lastly, at the time I write this – many of us are more or less confined at home. I intend this, and indeed all my music to act as an escape into the world of the imagination, to somewhere serene and restful and evocative of natural beauty. So let your mind wander among the stars for a few moments – with soundtrack!

Sincerely
Edward Givens

Meade Factory Padded Shipping And Storage Case for 12″ LX200 Scopes For Sale In Marcellus

Greetings, fellow astrophiles!

The following in from Bob Piekiel. For interested parties, please drop a line to info@cnyo.org and I’ll forward your email along.

Please excuse the poor photos! I don’t have room to store this enormous case and need to sell it – It is a Meade factory padded shipping and storage case for the 12″ Lx200 scopes and similar. The Meade 12″ scopes do not rotate down inside the forks so the OTA extends up from the base when stowed, making for a monster of a case to house / ship it in. There is plenty of room inside for other types of scopes, i.e.” A Nexstar 11, or various other styles.

This case has a heavy foam inside with a zippered cloth cover and handles. $100 PICKUP ONLY! It’s too big to ship by normal carriers.

Celestron CGEM DX Mount For Sale In CNY

Greetings, fellow astrophiles!

This in from CNYO email list member and local astrophotographer extraordinaire (and “regular” photographer extraordinaire at Revette Studio) Brad Loperfido. Link to the model (and pic – not the actual one being sold) below – and feel free to contact Brad directly about the mount.

celestron.com/products/cgem-dx-mount-tripod-computerized-telescope

Anyone interested in buying a CGEM DX mount? I’ve had it for 6 years now and plan on upgrading.  Tracks well and can support 50 lb load. I used it exclusively for astrophotography and it has served me well. I have two counter weights for it a 25lb and 10 lb for smaller loads.

I have pics on request.

Bob Piekiel Updates – New eBook Formats And A Meade 16″ LX-200 Classic Available

Update: 5 May 2019 – We’re pleased to report that the LX-200 has sold!

Greetings, fellow astrophiles!

Two updates from CNY’s (and Baltimore Woods’) best observing host, Bob Piekiel.

1. His Book Collection Now In eBook Format

Bob has published a number of excellent books for the committed scope owner over the years and has now brought them into the tablet age with eBook versions of all of his texts. Screen readers and international purchasers worried about shipping fees rejoice!

To see the collection and purchase books/ebooks, please see www.cnyo.org/books-by-robert-piekiel/ or send an email to piekielrl_at_netzero.net

2. Now For Sale – Meade 16″ LX-200 Classic w/Custom Optics, Tripod, Trailer And Wedge

A behemoth that has dazzled the vision of many a CNY public viewing member!

The mentioned Meade 16″ LX-200 Classic (right) from an autumn Baltimore Woods session.

Bob is selling a rare and classic Meade telescope in the CNY area. He also has an ad for the scope on the cloudynights.com website.

I am reluctantly offering for sale my Meade 16″ LX200 custom classic. Due to back problems, I can no longer easily set it up (Even with the requisite helper – it’s a two-man job). I purchased this from Meade enthusiast and spokesperson Bobby Lindsey. According to him, it was one of the first few they produced, and the opticians worked extra long and hard on the optics to make it perform much better than “normal” so it could be used to promote the scope (Jack Newton supposedly got one of the others in this batch). I have no way to prove this, but star-tests are excellent, showing almost no SA and very smooth optical surfaces.

It comes with the standard super-giant tripod, a CUSTOM wedge that I had a foundry make, plus a trailer, as seen in the photos. It comes with an 80mm finder (NOT the 50mm mounted on the scope), and also a custom R&P screw-on focuser (It does have some image-shift, the only problem I can find with it. No eyepieces or diagonal.

You must pick it up, or hire / send someone to get it, as I cannot ship it. No exceptions!

$8000. Paypal only, please.
