Central New York Science and Engineering Fair (CNYSEF) – Volunteers And Judges Needed

Greetings, fellow astrophiles – this in from the TACNY email list.

Volunteers and judges are needed for the Central New York Science and Engineering Fair (CNYSEF) sponsored by the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) on Sunday, March 31, 2019 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (schedule) at the SRC Arena on the Onondaga Community College campus. This year, students from ten counties will compete in two divisions, the junior fair for 4th-8th graders and the senior fair for 9th-12th graders. Judges don’t need to be experts in science to listen as the students demonstrate how much they have learned and accomplished. A continental breakfast, lunch and training will be provided for the judges and volunteers. Those interested in volunteering can apply online here. The encouragement and interest shown by volunteers and judges is an essential part of the student’s science fair experience. Help inspire our future generation of scientists and engineers.

Second Annual CNY Innovation Challenge 2019

This in from the TACNY email list. Students, mentors, and judges are all welcome to take a look.

The CNY Innovation Challenge aims to spark ideas to develop groundbreaking products or services and to foster entrepreneurship. We know that students have really good ideas that could turn into great inventions and this challenge has been designed to help guide those ideas from concept to completion. The process includes a crucial step – documenting intellectual property to protect concepts that could be used in a patent application. Teams will learn strategies to advance their idea and take a product/service to market. In addition to designing and developing an idea, you will need to have a solid go-to-market plan and a marketing pitch to “sell” your concept. See full rules.


The Challenge is open to students in grades 6-12. There will be winners in two brackets: high school (grades 10-12) and middle school (grades 6-9). Teams need to have a minimum of two students and a maximum of four. Top team prize for the high school category is $1,000 and top team prize for middle school level is $500. Additional prizes will be determined based on the number of entries overall.

STEM Career Fair Volunteers Needed! Auburn High School, 16 November 2017

Time: Set up/dinner 5:30-6:30; Present from 6:30- 8:30

The CNY American Chemical Society chapter along with Auburn High School and the ACS Auburn High School Chem club are hosting a Science career fair to help High School and College students in Cayuga and Onondaga counties identify careers in science that would interest them. Many students are not familiar with all the various careers that involve science so are unable to take the correct courses to meet the requirements for those careers.

We are looking for members of the community that have a career in science fields that are willing to take the time to share their experiences of their job on Thursday evening, November 16, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:30. Set-up time and a thank you dinner will be provided from 5:30 to 6:30 at Auburn High School.

The evening will be run similar to a college fair where presenters will be at display tables and students will walk around speaking to presenters about their careers. To help students, they will have an icebreaker activity with suggested questions that they can ask as they fill out a booklet to win a prize.

We ask that presenters have a display with pictures of you doing your job, where you went to high school, college, and beyond and maybe an activity, demonstration or giveaway. If you would like help with a display, please let us know. We have several very creative students that would design one for you.
